A journey is built backwards from an outcome you can name. The turnshops, the coaching and the measurement all hang off it rather than standing on their own.
It starts with what is in the way
Most learning needs analyses ask people what training they want, and produce a catalogue rather than a change. We start at the other end: what is currently turning this group off. Interviews and floor time with the people who will be in the room — not a form emailed to a distribution list.
Then it is designed for these people
An annual learning calendar, competency frameworks, and a sequence built around the specific people in the room, the specific outcomes you need, and the specific context the learning has to survive. Not a menu with your logo on it.
Measured on the way, not at the end
A smile sheet on the last afternoon tells you how the room felt about the room. A journey is measured against the outcome it was built backwards from, while there is still time to change what is not working.
It ends by making itself unnecessary
