Muneeb Ur Rehman

Muneeb Ur Rehman is an applied performance practitioner. Theatre found him in 2008 and has been his instrument ever since: not as something to watch, but as a way of getting at creativity, empathy and imagination in rooms that had stopped reaching for any of the three.

He has worked this way across South Asia: Europe, the United States, South Africa and Singapore, and across contexts that do not normally sit in one CV: he built Pakistan's first theatre department in a Karachi secondary school, trained Tibetan refugees in drama pedagogy in Nepal, and has taught medical students at Aga Khan University since 2023 to find their own voice through embodied methods. Problem solving, collaboration and empathy, learned standing up.

At the National Incubation Centre and Habib University he has taken founders through embodied work on personal vision and user-centred design. At the Arts Council Theatre Academy he introduced performance improvisation to the Pakistan Theatre Festival for the first time, and designed the three-tier course that followed.

His research on organic creative practice for community and organisational development appears in 'Theatre and Democracy', published by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology with the University of the Witwatersrand, and in 'Embodied Playwriting' from Routledge.

What he brings a client is the oldest technology there is for changing how a group behaves, pointed at a modern problem. His own word for it is visceral, and it is the right one.
